How much epic fun can you pack into a short ski vacation, such as five days, or even less? Yes, it really is possible.
When you can only have a few days to escape the grind of everyday life every minute counts. I don’t know about you, but on those trips I look for ways to play, not commute. Give me a convenient airport and a short drive to great snow. Yes, I want it all.
When I first visited Salt Lake City to ski less than a year ago, I didn’t realize how spoiled I’d become. The airport is the #1 on-time airport in the country. And there are around 645 scheduled daily flights from the facility serving more than 89 cities with non-stop flights. Box one - checked.
Then there is the drive. I don’t have time for a long drive and neither do you. [Remember I mentioned I’m a little demanding…] Again, Salt Lake City delivers with seven ski resorts within less than 45 minutes of the airport. Just grab a rental car, drive up one of the canyons, and get into the snow.

Anyone who knows me is aware that I love to eat. So when I vacation, food becomes part of my itinerary. In recent years, Salt Lake City has morphed into a pallet-pleasing destination. To find the best it has to offer, check out Pam’s Plate on our blog. She travels the state looking for the best dinning and après ski options.
With such convenience available, grab the calendar and look for a little window of time to steal away and ski The Greatest Snow on Earth.
A few tips:
Most resorts offer excellent gear rentals, so even if you have your own gear; I suggest renting skis and just packing your boots and helmet. Much easier for a short getaway. Click HERE for gear rental options.
If you have a fifth or sixth grade student joining you, check out this deal: 5th or 6th Grade Passport. It’s open to all students, not just those who live in Utah. Apply at least 3-weeks prior to your visit to make sure you have it back in time.
To make the most of a short stay, book lodging in the zone where you plan to ski. Anywhere in the zone would be close enough to maximize time on the slopes.
Check resort site for deals. They frequently add special offers that will make your short stay even more affordable.
