Cold Smoke and Hot Deals

The Thanksgiving Holiday has come and gone, and boy did we have a lot to be thankful for here in the Wasatch.  Not only has it continued to dump, more and more terrain is opening by the hour and our famous blower powder, or as I like to call it, "cold smoke" has returned. If you've read my earlier blogs, you'll remember I spoke about the heavy dense grauplel that had fell. Most of our earlier storms this season had very high water contents and therefore skied creamy as compared to today's cold smoke.  Just to give you an example, today's 21 inches of snow at Snowbird yielded us just about 1.1 inches of water, whereas back on the 21st of November that same 1.1 inches of water gave us just about 12 inches of snow.  Check out the Alta snowfall history page  to see how and when each and every snowfall stacks up.
On a side note, I was just thinking that this season reminds me a lot of the 2004-2005 winter season in Utah.  That season we were once again blessed with just under 700 inches of The Greatest Snow on Earth®. That winter I made my second trip out to Utah, and for the second time in as many years I took advantage of an awesome early season deal up at Snowbird.  Ski and Stay for $99 a day, I mean come on, where else are you going to find a deal like that?  I'd have to say that this deal actually changed my life, because it was on this trip that I said to myself, somehow, someway I would find a way to move out here. Sure enough two years later I was living in Park City, Utah. Also, a good friend at Park City Mountain Resort just mentioned to me that they have similar deals going on. Here you can ski and stay for under $70 a night.  http://www.parkcitymountain.com/winter/plan/package_deals.   It's time to wake up my fellow East Coasters and book those early season vacations now. I can assure you, with all the snow we currently have and more in the forecast these deals wont last long.
Here is a short little video I shot today at Alta Ski Area.

I moved back from college the winter of 2004-05 and haven't been able to leave since. I have been told that when we have a great start like this it only gets better!

I heard that from the most realible source at DV, but it doesn't seem to have publicly announced yet so call to verify.
