Weekly Condition and Weather Report

With a large high pressure area forecasted to settle over the Western United States last week, I knew I'd be I forced to get a bit more creative in finding powder stashes.  With Monday's surprise snowstorm, Alta was able to open far more terrain than I had expected and each passing day a few more ropes dropped and areas opened.   Here is some video from Alta on November 23.  Needless to say the powder skiing at Alta was excellent this week.

Now that  high pressure is firmly intrenched over the west, it was time to mix it up a bit and get back to skiing groomers.  I'm called the Powderhound for a reason, so when it comes to skiing groomers, I brought the Big Guy out.  Ryan, who is a great friend of mine, grew up skiing the groomed terrain of Sun Valley, Idaho.  He also works for the Wintersteiger Sports Company so he knows a thing or two about tuning skis and carving turns.  So in the video below I asked Ryan for his advice on how to best enjoy these blue bird days and corduroy carving before the next dump of snow comes through.  Here is what Ryan had to say up at Snowbasin on Saturday.

Now this may only be my personal opinion but right now I believe Snowbasin is offering the best top to bottom cruisers in the State of Utah. 2,400 feet of pure bliss.  So if you find some time to get out there this week be sure to shred the Basin.  Oh and don't be afraid to enjoy some lunch up there as well because the food is out of control.  I took down almost an entire turkey breast, mashed potatoes, stuffing and Squatters IPA all for under $20.  The only suggestion I'll make is be sure you're done skiing for the day before you have lunch because after the two pounds of turkey I took down I was ready for some serious nap time.

Looking ahead to this week, it still looks like high pressure will be the dominate feature over the West.  There is an opportunity for some lighter snow on Wednesday night into Thursday but really nothing to get super excited about if skiing powder is your thing.  Storms like these that track from the due north usually don't have a lot of moisture to work with. While it's possible that we may be able to squeeze out a few inches of snow during the midweek period, I think the colder weather will be the bigger story.  Then it looks like more sunshine for Utah.  Don't fret, the powder will come and the moment I even get a hint of the pattern changing, I'll be sure to post an update on the blog.

Love the video music--perfect with the sunshine and good vibe feeling that comes from the video. And, it was a beautiful day.
